Angelos Hatzakis, MD, PhD, is the Founder of the National Retrovirus Reference Center and Former Director of the Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Medical School. He is former President of the Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention (KEELPNO); also, Founder and Co-Chair of “Hepatitis B & C Public Policy Association” in Luxembourg.
Author of more than 370 scientific papers, published in journals such as Lancet, JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, Proceedings of National Academy of Science, Journal of Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Journal of Virology, Journal of General Virology, AIDS, Journal of AIDS, AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, Journal of Hepatology, Blood, American Journal of Epidemiology, Cancer Research, Pediatrics, etc., with more than 29,000 citations and h-index 79.
His research work has awarded by the Academy of Athens in 2011, the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA – former EMCDDA) in 2016 and by the World Health Organization and Vital Strategies, Partnership for Healthy Cities in 2023.
