Policy Frameworks for Promoting Public Health

Chair: Andrzej Fal

Speakers: Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh, Piotr Karniej

Piotr Karniej will delve into the public health policy framework, exploring key components that should be included. Should educational programs for smoking cessation target both youth and adults? What about financial incentives, counseling, psychological support, or pharmacological therapies? He will also raise the question of whether governments should reconsider their tax policies to create a significant price difference between cigarettes and alternative nicotine products, thereby encouraging smoking cessation. Additionally, the importance of ongoing research will be highlighted.

Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh will discuss the opportunity of harm reduction strategies, as a means to lessen the smoking burden. She will present worldwide data as well as data from Malaysia and will highlight public health policy interventions that address the global burden of smoking.
